If I could choose one colour family that has dominated interior design over the past decade, it would be green. Green connects us to nature and works beautifully alongside timber, stone and natural textures. Depending on the tone, green can feel fresh and uplifting, soft and calming, or rich and grounding. To make choosing a green a little easier, I've broken my favourites into four categories.

First are the Barely-There Greens, perfect for those wanting just a whisper of colour. Then come the Soft Sages, which create a calm and timeless backdrop. Next are the Mid Greens, ideal for cabinetry and statement moments. Finally, I've included Moody Greens that create depth, sophistication and a stronger connection to nature.

PRO TIP: Remember to consider your natural light - South-facing homes often benefit from warmer greens, and North-facing homes can comfortably handle cooler greens. Shelley

Barely-There Green

These soft greens are almost neutral in appearance, bringing just enough colour to create warmth and interest without overwhelming a space.

Soft Sage

Sage greens remain one of my most-used colour families. They feel calming, sophisticated and incredibly versatile, pairing beautifully with warm whites, oak and natural stone.

PRO TIP: Paint your entire interior the same green, including ceilings, skirtings, architraves and doors to create that colour-drenched look. Vary the sheen levels for practicality, like semi-gloss for frames and doors and ceiling paint tinted to your chosen green for ceilings.

Soft Sages

Mid Greens

PRO TIP: Always test large samples in morning, afternoon, and evening light. The same green can look completely different depending on orientation and natural light.

These deeper greens create atmosphere and sophistication. They are ideal for powder rooms, studies, libraries and feature joinery.
